In this article our partner Federico Caruso, together with Giulia Tatangelo and Valentina Predazzi of SIB Società Italiana Brevetti, summarise the key topics discussed during the conference “Agrobio Next Gen and Protection – A Tribute to Stefano Borrini” organised by SIB Lex and SIB in Rome on 19 November 2025.
The focus is on the increasingly central relationship between intellectual property and NGTs (New Genomic Techniques), also in light of the draft regulation that reached a provisional agreement at the conclusion of the trilogue on 3 December 2025.
The authors stress the need to strike a balance between the protection of patents and plant variety rights on the one hand, and access to protected technologies on the other.
